Evidence of Awareness of Design Practices

For my Design Sector module I carried out some research and did a group presentation based on four different Interior Design/Architecture firms. The firm I was given to conduct research into was called TP Bennett.

TP Bennett are a leading architectural, interiors and town planning practice with over 90 years' experience across a broad range of building types in the both the private and public sector. They are a creative and design-led company, committed to developing sustainable, cost effective solutions that far exceed the expectations of their clients.

TP Bennetts' headquarters is based in London and they have a regional hub based in Manchester, but TP Bennetts' global network connects with 44 affiliate offices in locations such as locations across the world including London, Paris, New York, Manchester, Tokyo, Dubai and many, many more.

TP Bennett also work within a wide range of sectors such as residential, hospitality&leisure, store design, urban design, office space, student residential and many, many more.

TP Bennett massively pride themselves on always creating sustainable design so much so that they even have their own sustainability policy. TP Bennett has a specialist sustainability unit that was formed 20 years ago to research, develop and disseminate best practice in responsible architecture to all members of the design team. Their aim is to ensure that sustainability is embedded by default and not only by their approach in design, but also in the way they run their company. Their approach is to always discuss sustainable issues and benefits with their clients at the earliest possible opportunity in the design process.

After researching into TP Bennett and hearing about the many different companies that others had the research the main thing I was able to take away from this section of the Design Sector module was the knowledge of more Interior Design/Architectural firms that before now I had never heard of before. From looking specifically into TP Bennett I was also introduced to many different design sectors that before now I didn't really consider or realise was an area I could work in such as urban design. However, now that I know that there are many more design sectors out their for me to explore and choose between I will now be able to explore these further in my working life. Finally, after conducting research into this company it has also effected the way I look at design and the way I consider my own design as it has made me realise that in todays design world and environment creating designs that are sustainable are very important and also highly sought after today. This makes me look at design in a more cautious way that ensure that when designing I look at a sustainable way to create my design or even if their is a more sustainable way to do something.
