Last weekend I went down to London for a University trip to the Design Museum in Kensington. When their the museum had on their all year round exhibition called 'Designer, Maker, User' and also a feature exhibition had 'Fear and Love'.

Designer, Maker, User is an introduction to the museum's collection, looking at the development of modern design through these three interconnected roles. When viewing the collection I was presented with displays and artwork featuring and dedicated to twentieth and twenty-first century designs. The exhibition included a wide range of design disciplines, from architecture and engineering, to the ever developing digital world, fashion and graphics. While exploring the exhibition it was interesting and intriguing to see such a wide range of design disciplines all in one place and being able to view each discipline from the view of the designer, the maker and the user.

Visiting this particular exhibition showed me in even greater detail than I already knew just how much the design world has evolved over the years and how every aspect of all the design disciplines keeps on evolving. Seeing this evolution can be applied to my own work as I feel as though seeing this has made more comfortable and more excited to push the boundaries of design as the design industry is always evolving to newer, more exciting and innovative ways of design.

Fear and Love: Reactions to a Complex World had some newly commissioned works that explored a spectrum of issues that define our time, including: networked sexuality, sentient robots, slow fashion and settled nomads. The exhibition asserted that design is deeply connected to not just culture but to urgent underlying issues, ones of which are inspired by fear and love.

After exploring these two exhibitions, particularly the 'Designer, Maker, User' exhibition, I was particularly interested in going a viewing the pavilion outside of the Design Museum. While walking around the 'Designer, Maker, User' exhibition I had already explored the section of the exhibition that is dedicated to the pavilion. Therefore, after reading about the design and the design process of the pavilion, and viewing drawings, models and photographs of the pavilion I wanted to see the final design and product which on such a great, sunny day like I was able to view it in as absolutely stunning.

Finally, after attending the Design Museum and exploring both the 'Designer, Maker, User' exhibition and the 'Fear and Love' exhibition I decided to take advantage of the gorgeous weather and my weekend in London and decided to spend the rest of the day exploring the city and viewing some of the design and architecture.
