User Centred Design

The User Centred Design module was spilt into two sections, research into either Frank Lloyd Wright or Le Corbusier; and then designing an urban house in Manchester. For my research I chose to look into a variety of designs created by Le Corbusier, such as, the Shodhan House, Villa Savoye, and the Curutchet House as I found these to be the most interesting designs he produced. Once I had researched into Le Corbusiers' designs and career I then used the research into his designs to inform my design for my urban house. As part of the brief I was given 'clients' that would be living in the house I designed with the requirements that the house had to be inspired from the work of either Frank Lloyd Wright or Le Corbusier and that the house would have space for both of them to work in as they would be working from home. The 'clients' were an art dealer and writer/journalist which required both an office space and a small art gallery to be within the house. For the design process I was given the choice of two plots of land in Manchester and had to chose one of the plots of land to base my designs off so that I knew the space I was working with. To show my designs in the most effective way I created a floor plan for each floor, a quick visual of the living space, an elevation of the front of the house and a drawing to show the vertical circulation of the house.
