For my Specialist Studies in Design module I designed a set/sets for a TV Drama. I was given a script which I had to read and follow to create my designs for my sets. For this particular TV drama I designed three set; a kitchen, a study and a hallway as the TV drama was mainly set within these three spaces. After reading the whole script I was able to create an idea of how I thought each set should look whilst also making sure they were all in keeping with each other, so that it would give the illusion that this TV drama was being filmed within a real house. From my reading of the script I understood the house to still have its original victorian features on the outside but the inside to have been redecorated somewhere within the late 60s/early 70s. To gain a broader idea of what a house during the era would look like I did research into different patterns, colours and styles that were popular at those times so that I would be able to create my own 60s/70s inspired interior for my sets from my research.

To show all research that led me to my final designs for my three sets and to effectively show what my sets would look like if they were made I did the following things:

  • Script Breakdown

  • Mood Board

  • Floor Plans

  • Side Elevations

  • Three white card models - one for each set

  • A storyboard focusing on the interior scenes

  • A comprehensive props list

  • Two visuals
