Architectural Technology and Spatial Design
For my Architectural Technology and Spatial Design module their was three sections to complete. The first was to create a Pecha Kucha about a given material/skill/process that was chosen for me. For my Pecha Kucha I was given masonry to research and to specifically look into the history of masonry, what it is and what its used for, the advantages and disadvantages of masonry, how its used within interior design and more.

For the main section of the module I designed a reception desk for a mobile provider company of my choosing. I decided to go with Virgin Media mainly because I use this company and also because when designing the reception desk the brief stated that I have to incorporate the colours and/or the logo and/or the general company design within my scheme. For my reception desk I played around with many different designs with my main focuses either being a geometric style desk or a design that somehow incorporated the Virgin Media logo which is an infinity symbol. To inform my design ideas I conducted some research into Virgin Media, had a brief look at other creative and innovative reception desks, material research and also into ergonomics and anthropometrics. I have also included my lecture notes and my personal evaluation on my design.

Once I had finished doing all my research that I felt was relevant to my design and I had explored different design options, I went with a design of a geometric style desk made of raw concrete with a cantilevered section on one end of the desk made of marble, supported by steel rods underneath and I included the Virgin Media logo on the front of the desk. To properly show how this reception desk would look from all angles, and demonstrate the support for the marble section of the desk and to show the cupboard and draw fittings underneath the desk I created a set of plans, elevations, and cross sections in AutoCAD of my design.
